No. 3 Cincinnati rolls on in rout of Central Florida

Ford rushed for a career-high 189 yards and four touchdowns, helping No. 3 Cincinnati roll past visiting Central Florida 56-21 on Saturday.

Desmond Ridder passed for 140 yards and a touchdown as the Bearcats (6-0, 2-0 AAC) extended the nation’s secondlong­est home winning streak to 24 games.

It was first time in school hiser tory that Cincinnati scored 50 or more points in consecutiv­e games.

It was just four seasons ago that Central Florida (3-3, 1-2) beat Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium by a similar score 51-23.

“This is a far cry from where we were five years ago,” Bearcats coach Luke Fickell said. “The guys that are still here turned the culture around.”

Ford needed just 20 carries to amass his 189 yards.

“He just keeps getting strongJero­me and stronger,” Fickell said. “... He’s going to be fresh the last half of the season.”

San Diego State wins

Lucas Johnson threw touchdown passes to Jesse Matthews in each overtime period as No. 24 San Diego State (6-0, 2-0) finally got going offensivel­y for a 19-13 Mountain West Conference win over host San Jose State (3-4, 1-2) Friday night.

Johnson delivered a 14-yard pass on the opening possession of overtime for the Aztecs. Trenton Thompson intercepte­d Nick Nash to start the second overtime to set up the winner.

Quarterbac­k’s run

Quarterbac­k Armani Rogers, a former Los Angeles Hamilton High standout, had an NCAA record 99-yard touchdown run, the longest by a player at his position, during Ohio’s 27-26 loss to Buffalo. Arizona State’s Mark Malone had the previous mark of 98 set in 1979 against Utah State.
