2 killed, 1 hurt when driver runs red light to evade police

Two people were killed and another injured after a driver ran a red light while evading police and caused a multivehic­le collision in South L.A. early Friday, police said.

The crash occurred about 4:15 a.m. at the intersecti­on of South Broadway and West Manchester Avenue, Los Angeles police said.

Officers initially observed a car traveling west on Manchester at high speed, police said.

As they tried to pull the car over, the driver continued speeding west on Manchester and ran the red light, police said.

The car collided with at least three other vehicles, including that of the two people killed, whom police identified only as a male and a female.

The two were pronounced dead at the scene.

At least one suspect, who suffered minor injuries, was taken into custody, police said.

KTLA-TV reported that two suspects were were later caught, but police would not confirm those reports.

The investigat­ion into the crash continues.
