Questioning Castro pick

-

I totally agree with

Carolina Miranda about James Franco playing Fidel Castro [“Franco Playing Castro? Sorry, No Cigar,” Aug. 10]. Although a very good actor, he isn’t a Latin actor. I have always opposed white people playing Indians (like Jeff Chandler as Cochise among many others), English actors playing Irish and white people playing Latinos.

The acting pool today has many ethnic actors capable of playing the parts. Castro could be played by Benicio Del Toro, Andy Garcia and others.

James Franco’s father is of Portuguese ancestry, while Castro is of Spanish and Canarian ancestry. Their shared origin might explain why Franco was cast as Castro.
