No. 13 North Carolina State 21, at East Carolina 20: The Wolfpack prevailed after Pirates kicker Owen Daffer missed an extra point with 2:58 left and a 41-yard field goal with five seconds to go. East Carolina was in position to hand North Carolina State a surprising loss when the Pirates got the ball back late down one, not to mention offer Daffer a shot at redemption after he missed the tying extra point attempt after Rahjai Harris’ short touchdown run. at No. 16 Miami 70, Bethune-Cookman 13: Henry Parrish rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns, Tyler Van Dyke passed for two more scores and the Hurricanes made Mario Cristobal a winner in his debut game as Miami’s coach. Miami rushed for seven touchdowns, piled up 582 yards of offense and turned three takeaways into touchdowns. Thaddeus Franklin rushed for two scores, while Devon Perry and Terrell Walden II also ran for touchdowns for the Hurricanes. Rutgers 22, at Boston College 21: Al-Shadee Salaam scored on a 22-yard run with 2:43 to play, lifting Rutgers to a comeback victory. Rutgers had lost the last 11 meetings against Boston College, which holds a 20-7-1 edge in the series. Phil Jurkovec threw two of his three touchdown passes to Zay Flowers. at Syracuse 31, Louisville 7: Sean Tucker rushed for 98 yards and scored two touchdowns, one on a 55-yard catchand-run, and quarterbac­k Garrett Shrader threw for two scores and ran for another as the Orange rolled. at Virginia 34, Richmond 17: Brennan Armstrong threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Virginia opened the Tony Elliott coaching era with a win.
