“Sandy Koufax, the 28-year-old mound genius” Parade caught up with Koufax the season after he won 25 games, was league MVP and Pitcher of the Year and won two World Series games over the hated Yankees for the victorious Dodgers. But he also excelled in self-deprecatio­n: “[I’m] just a normal human being,” he told Parade. “I’m not entitled to any special treatment just because I’m a ballplayer.” The Hall of Fame disagreed, seating him among baseball’s immortals in 1972.
