Young leads Crimson Tide’s comeback over Rebels

-

Bryce Young threw three touchdowns passes and No. 9 Alabama scored on four consecutive possessions spanning the second and third quarters, rallying to beat host No. 11 Mississippi 30-24 on Saturday.

Will Reichard kicked a 23-yard field goal to break a 24-24 tie in the fourth quarter after Young’s final scoring toss, a five-yarder to Ja’Courey Brooks. Alabama (8-2, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) secured the win by forcing an incomplete pass into the Crimson Tide end zone in the final minute to extend its seven-game winning streak over the Rebels (8-2, 4-2 SEC).

Young finished 21 of 33 for 209 yards, including touchdown throws to Brooks, Jermaine Burton and Cameron Latu.

No. 22 Central Florida 38, at No. 17 Tulane 31:

John Rhys Plumlee accounted for 308 yards and three touchdowns and the Knights (8-2, 5-1) took over first place in the American Athletic Conference.

Returning from an Oct. 29 concussion, Plumlee rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns. He also passed for 132 yards and a score as Central Florida surpassed 400 yards of offense for the eighth time this season.

The Green Wave (8-2, 5-1) pulled within a touchdown with 11:39 left when Michael Pratt hit Reggie Brown in the end zone to cap a drive sustained by Pratt’s fourth-and-six conversion on a pass to Lawrence Keys.

No. 20 Notre Dame 35, at Navy 32: Braden Lenzy reached around a defender with both arms to make a spectacular catch for one of four touchdown passes by Drew Pyne before halftime and the Fighting Irish (7-3) held on against the Midshipmen (3-7).

Pyne also ran for a touchdown in the first half, and Notre Dame blocked a punt for a fifth straight game.

Lenzy’s catch, however, was the most impressive highlight. The 38-yard touchdown put the Irish ahead 14-0. They led 35-13 at halftime before going dormant offensively. Navy got to within three with 1:21 remaining.
