Kansas State routs Kansas to set up TCU rematch

-

Will Howard threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns, Deuce Vaughn ran for 147 yards and a score, and No. 12 Kansas State pounded Kansas 47-27 on Saturday night at Manhattan, Kan., to earn a shot at payback against Texas Christian in the Big 12 Conference championship game.

Malik Knowles had a pair of touchdown runs, and Philip Brooks and Sammy Wheeler also reached the end zone, as the Wildcats (9-3, 7-2) beat their biggest rival for the 14th straight time in a game they needed to win.

Kansas State blew a 28-10 lead and lost 38-28 to TCU during the regular season. Now, they’ll face each other again next Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with a College Football Playoff spot likely on the line for TCU.

Jalon Daniels threw for 168 yards while running for a touchdown, and Devin Neal also had two touchdown runs, as the Jayhawks (6-6, 3-6) — bowl-bound for the first time since 2008 — finished the regular season by losing six of their final seven games.

No. 22 Central Florida 46, at South Florida 39: Mikey Keene threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Alec Holler with 20 seconds left as the Knights (9-3, 6-2) held on to beat the Bulls (1-11, 0-8) at Tampa, Fla., and earn a spot in the American Athletic Conference championship game.

Troy 48, at Arkansas State 19: Kimani Vidal ran for 208 yards and four touchdowns and the Trojans (10-2, 7-1) routed Red Wolves (3-9, 1-7) at Jonesboro, Ark., to advance to the Sun Belt Conference championship game. Troy’s ninth straight win secured a tie for the West Division title with South Alabama but with the Trojans’ victory over the Jaguars in October, Troy will host Coastal Carolina.

at North Texas 21, Rice 17: Austin Aune threw two touchdown passes and the Mean Green (7-5, 6-2) fought off the Owls (5-7, -3-5) at Denton, Texas, to secure a bid in the Conference USA championship game against Texas San Antonio at the Alamodome on Dec. 2.
