GROUP G CAMEROON VS. SERBIA

-

Where: Al Janoub Stadium

Time: 2 a.m. PST Monday

TV: FS1, Telemundo, Peacock Premium

The buzz: Both teams failed to score while losing their openers and need at least a point here to keep alive their hopes of advancing to the next round. Cameroon arguably outplayed Switzerland in its first game but was frustrated by goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who made five saves in a 1-0 win. Adding insult to injury, the only goal came from Cameroon-born forward Breel Embolo three minutes into the second half. That ran the Indomitable Lions’ World Cup losing streak to eight in a row dating to 2002. Cameroon has won just once in 17 tries in this tournament since reaching the quarterfinals in 1990. Serbia, meanwhile, played Brazil to a stalemate for an hour in its opener before falling 2-0. The game wasn’t nearly that close, with Serbia getting outshot 23-5 and failing to put a try on target.
