Swanson agrees to deal with Cubs

The Chicago Cubs and Dansby Swanson agreed to a seven-year, $177-million contract Saturday, adding the All-Star shortstop to their rebuilding project.

The deal includes a full no-trade clause, according to two people familiar with the negotiatio­ns who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the contract was pending a physical.

Chicago went 74-88 this year and finished third in the National League Central. It was its second consecutiv­e losing season, but it went 4031 in its last 71 games.

The addition of Swanson is the biggest of three major moves by the Cubs since the end of the season. The team finalized a one-year, $17.5million contract with 2019 NL MVP and former Dodger Cody Bellinger on Wednesday, and right-hander Jameson Taillon agreed to a fouryear contract worth roughly $68 million.

Pittsburgh and catcher Austin Hedges agreed to a one-year, $5-million contract, a person familiar with the negotiatio­ns told the AP. ... The New York Mets and Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga finalized a five-year, $75-million contract that includes a player opt-out clause after the 2025 season.
