Emotional return to action for Michigan State women

Michigan State women’s players wiped away tears as they stood shoulder to shoulder during a moment of silence before losing to No. 8 Maryland 66-61 on Saturday, less than a week after three students were killed in a shooting on campus.

The Spartans (13-13, 5-10 Big Ten) rallied to have a chance at an upset, coming up short after DeeDee Hagerman missed a three with three seconds left. Diamond Miller scored 29 points and helped the Terrapins (22-5, 13-3) hold on after leading by 16.

The Spartans men lost at Michigan, where they were honored by their rival.

Lou Lopez Senechal scored 22 points, including a crucial rainbow jumper late in the fourth quarter, to lift the Huskies (24-4, 16-1 Big East).

Men at No. 1 Alabama 108, Georgia 59:

Brandon Miller scored 21 points, and the Crimson Tide (23-4, 13-1 Southeaste­rn Conference) rebounded from their first SEC loss by setting a season scoring high.

at No. 5 Kansas 87, No. 9 Baylor 71:

Jalen Wilson had 21 points and 13 rebounds and DaJuan Harris scored all 14 of his points in the second

half as the Jayhawks (22-5, 10-4 Big 12) stormed back from a double-digit halftime deficit to beat the Bears (20-7, 9-5).

No. 6 Texas 85, Oklahoma 83 (OT):

Sir’Jabari Rice scored 20 of his gamehigh 24 points in the second half and overtime to lift the Longhorns (21-6, 10-4 Big 12).

at No. 7 Virginia 57, Notre Dame 55:

Kihei Clark scored 15 points, including a pair of free throws with 22.6 seconds left, and became the career assists leader for the Cavaliers (21-4, 13-3 Atlantic Coast Conference).

at Kentucky 66, No. 10 Tennessee 54:

Cason Wallace and Oscar Tshiebwe each scored 16 points and the Volunteers (20-7, 9-5 SEC) trailed by 20 at halftime and lost their first game since beating Alabama.

at No. 12 Kansas State 61, No. 19 Iowa State 55:

Markquis Nowell scored 20 points, including a three from near midcourt with 2:42 left, to lift the Wildcats (20-7, 8-6 Big 12) over the Cyclones (17-9, 8-6).

at No. 14 Indiana 71, Illinois 68:

Trayce JacksonDav­is had 26 points and 12 rebounds, Jalen Hood Schifino made two free throws with 30.7 seconds left, and the Hoosiers (19-8, 10-6 Big Ten) rallied from a ninepoint deficit to extend their home-court win streak to 15.

at No. 15 Miami 96, Wake Forest 87:

Isaiah Wong scored 27 points and Nijel Pack finished with 24 as the Hurricanes (22-5, 13-4 ACC) won their sixth straight and improved to 15-0 at home.

at No. 16 Xavier 82, DePaul 68:

Jack Nunge had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Musketeers (20-7, 12-4 Big East) bounced back from a pair of narrow losses.

at No. 22 Texas Christian 100, Oklahoma State 75:

Emanuel Miller had 18 points and Mike Miles Jr. 15 in his first game in three weeks, as the Horned Frogs (18-9, 7-7 Big 12) shot 68.4% to stop a four-game skid.
