The Detroit Pistons ended their NBA record-tying losing streak at 28 games with a 129-127 victory over the short-handed Toronto Raptors on Saturday night at home as Cade Cunningham had 30 points and 12 assists.

The Pistons, who hadn’t won since Oct. 28, matched the Philadelph­ia 76ers’ record of 28, split over the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. They finished one shy of the record for the four major American and Canadian leagues, set by the Chicago Cardinals during World War II.

The New York Knicks traded RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to the Raptors and acquired OG Anunoby, dealing two of their top offensive players but likely getting a boost to their defense with last season’s NBA leader in steals. The Knicks also acquired Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn, and sent the Raptors a 2024 secondroun­d pick belonging to Detroit.

Chris Sale’s to the Braves, covering a portion of the $27.5 million salary the seven-time AllStar is owed in 2024, the final guaranteed season of a $160 million, six-year contract. That 2024 salary includes $10 million deferred until June 30, 2039.
