Dodgers 9, Texas 0
AT THE PLATE: Outfield prospect Alex Castellanos hit his second home run in as many days. Castellanos, acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Rafael Furcal last year, was two for two to raise his spring average to .571. Manager Don Mattingly said Castellanos would play more at second base than in the outfield, a reflection of the Dodgers’ depth at those positions. Matt Kemp and Juan Rivera hit their first home runs of the spring. Dee Gordon was one for two with a walk, a steal and a run. Andre Ethier was two for two with a triple.
ON THE MOUND: Clayton Kershaw pitched three scoreless innings in his spring debut. He was followed by right-hander Angel Guzman, who gave up a walk and a hit to start what turned out to be a scoreless fourth inning. Guzman, 30, is in camp on a minor league contract. Guzman had an excellent season for the Chicago Cubs in 2009, posting a 2.95 earned-run average in 55 appearances. But he suffered a career-threatening shoulder injury the next spring and hasn’t pitched in the majors since.
EXTRA BASES: The Dodgers will stage their annual job fair from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Dodger Stadium. More than 100 companies will be represented. Parking and admission are free. A free shuttle service will be provided from the corners of Elysian Park Avenue and Sunset Boulevard and Elysian Park Avenue and Stadium Way. It is recommended that participants dress in business attire and bring multiple copies of their resumes.
UP NEXT: In split-squad games today, Nathan Eovaldi faces the Seattle Mariners and Hisashi Iwakuma at noon PST at Peoria Stadium and Chad Billingsley faces the Chicago White Sox and Philip Humber at 6 p.m. PST at Camelback Ranch.
