PAINTING DOWNTOWN GREEN
Tradition isn’t much of a virtue in L.A. night life, where bars and clubs seem to come and go in the time it takes to refill your tumbler. But downtown’s basement bastion of neo-irish bonhomie, Casey’s Irish Pub, has been the central city’s home for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations for decades.
Since last year, however, the party has flowed into the street. Now operated as part of Cedd Moses’ downtown fiefdom, Casey’s is hosting its second annual St. Patrick’s Day Street Festival that brings in big crowds and an outdoor music stage to two blocks outside its doors. Busy bartenders also sling enough Bushmills and Guinness to make anyone feel like they’re Yeats by the end of the night. We tallied the numbers of what goes into the annual ode to Eire at Casey’s. We’re just glad we don’t have to do the dishes afterward. 80 cases of whiskey 200 kegs of Guinness
15,000+ revelers
500+ Pickle Back Shots (Casey’s signature combo: one shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey and one shot of housemade pickle juice)
3 tribute bands (to U2, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin)
20 hours Casey’s is open for St. Pat’s revelry
100+ pounds of corned beef at Casey’s (with another 100 pounds of corned beef at its sister establishment, Cole’s)
25 bartenders on duty at Casey’s that day.
