Phillies put Howard on DL

The Philadelph­ia Phillies put first baseman Ryan Howard on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of inflammati­on in his left knee. Howard originally was in Saturday’s starting lineup but was a late scratch. The three-time AllStar has struggled while playing through the knee injury, batting .266 with 11 home runs and 43 runs batted in. Etc.

St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina was sent for medical tests for a knee injury and did not play against Miami. The test results were not announced. . . . Pittsburgh second baseman Neil Walker left the game against the Chicago Cubs because of discomfort on his right side. . . . San Diego catcher Yasmani Grandal left the game at Washington in the third inning because of a right knee sprain suffered in a collision at the plate. . . . Seattle traded infielder Alex Liddi to Baltimore and exchanged signing slots for internatio­nal players. . . . Texas reliever Joakim Soria is expected to be activated Sunday after a nearly twoyear layoff because of elbow surgery.
