Jaguar to debut new coupe in L.A.
Jaguar will use this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show to debut to the world its all-new F-Type Coupe — the hardtop version of the roadster put on sale this year.
The coupe, to debut Nov. 20, will go on sale in spring 2014. “We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the F-Type Convertible,“Ian Callum, Jaguar’s director of design, said in a statement. “But for me, the purity of creating a sports coupe is a uniquely satisfying process. I know that both visually and dynamically, F-Type Coupe raises the bar yet again.”
Jaguar didn’t disclose details on what will make the FType Coupe move, but don’t expect big changes from the roadster lineup. This means either a 340- or 380-horsepower supercharged V-6, or a 495-horsepower V-8 will be your likely choices.
An eight-speed automatic transmission is bolted to those engines, with a manual gearbox a probability at some point in this model’s life span. Purists may scoff at using an automatic in such a high-performance car, but a recent Times review of the FType convertible found the gearbox quick and capable.
The coupe’s pricing remains another unknown, but don’t expect much of a difference from the roadster. That model starts around $70,000 for the base V-6, and can top out around $100,000 for the V-8 model if you work hard on the options.
The 2013 L.A. Auto Show is open to the media Nov. 20 and 21. It will be open to the public Nov. 22 through Dec. 1.
