Gold + Williams has room to spread out

- By Lisa Boone lisa.boone@latimes.com

Considering Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams’ affinity for traditional-modern hybrid designs — a Scandinavian-style Windsor chair from their spring collection features Tibetan fur cushions — their new location in Beverly Hills, not far from modern showrooms in West Hollywood and around the corner from Crate & Barrel and Pottery Barn, seems well situated.

Gold said the new Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams showroom is about three times the size of the former studio on 3rd Street in Los Angeles. “We are expanding our retail stores throughout the country. We are able to show much more of our collection than before.”

The open and airy showroom is stocked with a mixture of traditional furnishings spanning two floors, including the Dumont sofa ($2,445) as well as the more casual slipcovered Dr. Pitt sectional (starting at $7,485). In a bit of whimsy, lush, textured furnishings, such as the Duncan Tibetan fur cocktail ottoman ($1,525), power-shag rugs (starting at $700) and the soft Mary shearling chair ($2,445), complement some of the more classic designs.

“We want our furnishings to be somewhat familiar while at the same time very current with the fabrics and colors and the way we mix the pieces,” Williams said.

The design duo said they pride themselves on the fact that their products are made in an environmentally responsible manner. “Our wood frames and upholstery do not include chemicals, and all of our packaging is recyclable,” Gold said. “We are one of the few retailers that makes our own upholstery.”

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, 242 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, (323) 651-0200.
