Virginia wins, will face ’Heels

Mike Tobey and Evan Nolte each scored 11 points and No. 3 Virginia held on to beat Florida State, 58-44, on Thursday in the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfin­als.

Malcolm Brodgon scored all 10 of his points in the second half for the top-seeded and defending tournament champion Cavaliers (29-2). They will face No. 19 North Carolina in the semifinals after Brice Johnson scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half and the Tar Heels outlasted No. 14 Louisville, 70-60.

In the other half of the ACC draw, Quinn Cook scored 15 points and No. 2 Duke routed North Carolina State, 77-53. The second-seeded Blue Devils (29-3) will face No. 11 Notre Dame, which held off Miami, 70-63, after blowing a 20-point lead.

Aqeel Quinn made five threepoint­ers and scored 21 points to lead No. 2 seed San Diego State (25-7) past seventh-seeded Nevada Las Vegas, 67-64, in a Mountain West quarterfin­al. ... Big East sixth man of the year Josh Hart scored 20 points off the bench, and No. 4 Villanova beat Marquette, 84-49, in the tournament quarterfin­als. The Wildcats (30-2) made 17 of 29 threepoint attempts to win their 13th straight. ... James Blackmon Jr. scored 25 points, Yogi Ferrell added 17 and Indiana (20-12) boosted its NCAA hopes with a 71-56 victory over Northweste­rn in the second round of the Big Ten tournament. ... Kelly Oubre Jr. scored a careerhigh 25 points, Landen Lucas added 13 and No. 9 Kansas defeated Texas Christian, 64-59, in the Big 12 quarterfin­als. With scoring leader Perry Ellis sidelined by a knee injury, the top-seeded Jayhawks (25-7) had to sweat out all 40 minutes against the ninth-seeded Horned Frogs. In other Big 12 quarterfin­als, Taurean Prince scored 18 points, Royce O’Neale added 16 and No. 16 Baylor pulled away to beat No. 18 West Virginia, 80-70, and Monte Morris’ 18-foot jumper at the buzzer capped a 12-0 closing run that lifted No. 13 Iowa State to a 69-67 victory over Texas.... Tyler Harvey scored a career-high 42 points, carrying Eastern Washington over Idaho, 91-83, in the Big Sky Conference tournament opener.
