Bombing kills 30 near Syria border

-

A blast killed at least 30 people in a Turkish town near the country’s border with Syria, officials said. The bombing targeted an event at the Amara Cultural Center in the town of Suruc, just a few miles from the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani, the site of long- running battles between Islamic State and Kurdish fighters.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The Turkish Interior Ministry said in a statement shortly after the blast that nearly 100 people were being treated for injuries at hospitals and that the death toll could rise.
