Verizon profit tops estimates

Verizon Communicat­ions Inc.’s second-quarter earnings topped analyst expectatio­ns as it signed up more wireless customers.

The largest U.S. cellphone carrier’s profit came to $4.23 billion, or $1.04 a share, up from $4.21 billion, or $1.02, a year earlier.

Revenue grew 2.4% to $32.2 billion. The New York company expects revenue to grow “at least” 3% in 2015. Analysts polled by FactSet expect 3.5% growth.
