Nuns stick to their principles

Re “Judge to nuns: Work it out,” July 21

So, the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have taken the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles to court over the disputed sale of their property to singer Katy Perry. They’d originally agreed to sell it to someone else, but the archbishop said it wasn’t legal and decided to sell it to Perry.

A note to Perry: I was taught by Sister Rita Callanan and Sister JeanMarie Dunne (featured in Steve Lopez’s July 5 column), and although they are progressive nuns, they simply won’t budge on decency. In third grade I was sent to detention during summer school for baring my shoulders in a pink summer dress my father bought me for my birthday.

I love these nuns, who provided a great foundation for my education, and I’m glad that a few of them are sticking to their guns, so to speak.
