ESPN pulls Cowherd off the air

ESPN said radio host Colin Cowherd won’t be on the air again before leaving the network in the wake of his remarks about baseball players from the Dominican Republic. Cowherd, whose departure (reportedly to Fox Sports 1) had been announced earlier this month, said Thursday that he didn’t believe baseball was complex and that one-third of major league players were from the Dominican Republic, which had “not been known, in my lifetime, as having, you know, world-class academic abilities.”

Rain wiped out most play at golf ’s Senior British Open with more than half the field still to start the second round at Sunningdal­e. Scotland’s Colin Montgomeri­e was one of eight players leading at five under, but six, including 2014 champ Bernhard Langer, had yet to play a hole in the second round.

Organizers of Boston’s bid for the 2024 Olympics downplayed opposition that was already galvanizin­g against it, as well as prospects of a voter referendum, according to the documents that won over the U.S. Olympic Committee. The unredacted bid was released Friday. A citizen’s group has requested a referendum on the 2016 ballot that would effectivel­y prevent use of state taxpayer money on the Games.
