Ledecky anchors relay for her third win at worlds and Lochte takes fourth conecutive 200 IM.
Katie Ledecky and 31-year-old Ryan Lochte on Thursday carried the United States to its first two-gold-medal night of the eight-day world swimming championships at Kazan, Russia.
Ledecky anchored a 3.04-second comeback victory in the 800meter freestyle relay for her fourth gold. Sweden was under worldrecord pace for much of the 16-lap race, but on the anchor leg Ledecky quickly pulled even with Sweden’s Ida Marko-Varga and then opened a slight lead at 700 meters and powered home in 7 minutes 45.37 seconds.
Lochte won a record fourth consecutive title in the 200 individual medley. He trailed through the first three legs but came home strong on the freestyle lap and won with a time of 1:55.81.
