Home sells for 2nd time

The homes of an action film star and a celebrity hostess were among the most expensive residentia­l real estate sales in the greater Los Angeles area in the week that ended Aug. 1.

$11.2 million — Pacif ic Palisades

A Traditiona­l-style home in the 900 block of Corsica Drive changed hands for the second time this year for $11.2 million. The 9,104-square-foot home, complete with library, screening room and an elevator, previously sold in March for $10.995 million. Interiors featuring bay windows and wood f loors include seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms and three half-baths. A two-way fireplace divides the master bedroom and a private sitting room. A covered patio, large expanses of grass and a swimming pool and spa are within hedged grounds of about a third of an acre. Susan Montgomery of Sotheby’s Internatio­nal Realty was the listing agent. Drew Mandile, also of Sotheby’s, represente­d the buyer.

$9.4 million — Manhattan Beach

In the 600 block of John Street, an ocean-view home designed by Louie Tomaro sold for $9.4 million, or $4 million more than what it went for in 2011. Built in 2000, the French villainspi­red home sits on a 9,983-squarefoot lot with an outdoor kitchen/wet bar, a gazebo, a guesthouse and a swimming pool and spa. Two f loors of living include a formal entry, a game room, a home theater, a wine cellar, six bedrooms and 6.25 bathrooms in 7,398 square feet of space. Kris Terrill of Re/Max Estate Properties had the listing. Robb Stroyke of Stroyke Properties represente­d the buyer.

$9.2 million — Hollywood Hills West

Action film star Jason Statham and model Rosie Alice Huntington-Whiteley sold a pedigreed Mediterran­ean compound for $201,000 above their asking price of $8.999 million. The buyer was Johnny Galecki of “The Big Bang Theory” fame. The restored 1929 Mediterran­ean on half an acre in the 2400 block of Castilian Drive was previously owned by actor Ben Stiller and earlier by actor Lou Diamond Phillips. Interiors of 5,334 square feet, according to tax records, include living and family rooms, a den, a library/ study, an office, a gym and a breakfast area. There are six bedrooms and six bathrooms across two stories. A swimming pool, a dining patio and lush landscapin­g make up the grounds. Ben Bacal of Rodeo Realty was the listing agent. Brett Lawyer of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s Internatio­nal Real Estate, repped Galecki.

$7.13 million — Pacif ic Palisades

A midcentury estate in the 800 block of Vista Pacifica Street sold for $7.13 million. Listed for sale in January at $9.299 million, it was most recently priced at $8.499 million. Set on a 1.84acre promontory, the site backs the Santa Monica Mountains Conservanc­y with panoramic mountain and ocean views. The property centers on a main house, built in 1969, with four bedrooms, an art studio and an indoor pool and spa. A greenhouse and a guesthouse are among the exterior features. Mollie McGinty of Coldwell Banker Residentia­l Brokerage was the listing agent. Margaret Tan of Real Estate West represente­d the buyer.

$6,337,500 — Beverly Hills

The longtime home of late movie producer and screenwrit­er Jerry Wald and his wife, Connie, sold in the 600 block of Beverly Drive for $6,337,500 million after coming on the market in February for the first time in more than 70 years. Designed by noted architect Gerard R. Colcord and built in 1939, the Pennsylvan­ia Dutch Colonial Revival-style house was a hub for celebrity activity during the Walds’ ownership, with Connie Wald earning a star following for her home-style meals. Clad in fieldstone, the twostory home sits behind a white picket fence on more than half an acre. Within the 5,443 square feet of living space are screening and projection rooms, a library, five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and a powder room. A 725square-foot guesthouse set adjacent to a swimming pool completes the scenic grounds. Jerry Wald, who produced such feature films as “Key Largo” (1948) and “They Drive by Night” (1940), died in 1962 at 50. Connie Wald died in 2012 at 96. Bret Parsons of Coldwell Banker was the listing agent for the Wald estate. John Gould of Rodeo Realty represente­d the buyer. These are among the top residentia­l real estate sales reported on the combined L.A./Westside Multiple Listing Service for the period beginning July 26 and ending Aug. 1.
