Hundley, Tebow show something in preseason finales

Rookie Brett Hundley threw for four scores and the Green Bay Packers finished the preseason with a 38-10 win Thursday night over the New Orleans Saints.

Hundley, the fifth-round draft pick from UCLA, connected with Larry Pinkard on a 77-yard catch-and-run touchdown pass in the third quarter for the Packers.

Hundley completed 16 of 23 passes for 236 yards. He appears ticketed to be the third-string quarterbac­k in Green Bay behind NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and Scott Tolzien.

Tim Tebow threw two touchdown passes and an intercepti­on in his final opportunit­y to make Philadelph­ia’s roster, and the Eagles fell to the New York Jets, 2418. Tebow, competing with Matt Barkley for the No. 3 quarterbac­k job, flashed some of the playmaking and inconsiste­ncy that have made him so polarizing. He finished 11 of 17 for 189 yards, and added 32 yards in four rushes. Barkley completed four of nine for 45 yards and an intercepti­on. ... Jordan Todman had a 49-yard touchdown run and Carolina’s defense shut down the Pittsburgh Steelers backups in a 23-6 win. The Panthers outgained the Steelers, 454-191. ... Sean Renfree threw a touchdown pass and led another scoring drive to overshadow the preseason debut of Rex Grossman as the Atlanta Falcons held off the Baltimore Ravens, 20-19. Renfree made the most of his final bid to open the season as Matt Ryan’s backup. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 75 yards, including a 25yard touchdown pass to Carlton Mitchell. The 35year-old Grossman, who signed with Atlanta last week, completed four of nine for 41 yards. ... Chase Daniel threw a touchdown pass and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the St. Louis Rams, 24-17, to finish unbeaten in the preseason for the first time since 1969, the season the franchise won its lone Super Bowl title.

Marcus Mariota threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Harry Douglas to cap his only series, and the Tennessee Titans defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 24-17. ... Rookie running back Zach Zenner ran for a go-ahead three-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the Detroit Lions held on to beat the Buffalo Bills, 17-10. ... David Fales made his case to be Chicago’s third-string quarterbac­k, throwing two touchdown passes, and the Bears had seven sacks in a 24-0 victory over the Cleveland Browns. ... Jason Myers kicked a 47-yard field goal with 3:32 left in his debut as Jacksonvil­le’s starter, and the Jaguars beat the Washington Redskins, 17-16. ... Ben Malena ran five yards for the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter and the Dallas Cowboys avoided their second straight winless exhibition season with a 21-14 victory over the Houston Texans. ... Playing in a final preseason game for the first time since 2009, Chris Johnson ran 11 times for 45 yards as the Arizona Cardinals defeated the Denver Broncos, 22-20.

San Francisco’s Bruce Ellington had a 70-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown on the third snap of the game and the 49ers defeated the San Diego Chargers, 14-12. ... Tyler Lockett scored his third touchdown of the preseason on a 63yard reception from Russell Wilson, and the Seahawks closed out the preseason with a 31-21 win over the Oakland Raiders.

Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward has been suspended for Denver’s opener against Baltimore over a strip club incident that happened more than 15 months ago.
