Brendon De Jonge ran off seven birdies at the TPC Boston for a six- under 65 that gave him a twoshot first- round lead over nine players, including Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson and Luke Donald, at Norton, Mass. Jason Day, needing a victory to become No. 1in theworld for the first time, reached five under until two bogeys over his final five holes left him at 68. Rory McIlroy, back at No. 1 and playing for only the second time since the U. S. Open because of an ankle injury, had a 70. Jordan Spieth was visibly irritated just an hour into his round after two poor irons shots set up bogeys, and he finished at 75, matching his highest start of the year. It was the first time since June 2014 that Spieth has had three straight rounds over par. He left without speaking to reporters.

Jozy Altidore scored two second- half goals to help lift the United States to a 2- 1comeback victory over Peru in a soccer friendly at RFK Stadium in Washington. The Americans fell behind in the 20th minute when Daniel Chavez’s 20- yard shot caromed off defender Omar Gonzalez and looped over the outstretch­ed right arm of goalkeeper Brad Guzan. . . . Minnesota Timberwolv­es forward Andrew Wiggins scored 19 points to help Canada beat Puerto Rico, 112- 92, for its third straight victory in the Olympic men’s basketball qualifying tournament at Mexico City. Canada ( 3- 1) finished second in Group B behind Argentina ( 4- 0) andwill play Panama on Sunday in the secondroun­d. Puerto Rico will face Mexico in the second round.

Tampa Bay Lightning backup goalie Andrei Vasilevski­y could be sidelined up to three months after undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot from near his left collarbone.

The Internatio­nal Gymnastics Federation announced that three judges received a warning for “partisan judging” and two were suspended— one for six months, the other for three— for allegedly favoring rhythmic gymnasts from their own countries at the 2014world championsh­ips in Izmir, Turkey. The federation did not give the names of the judges, who can appeal within 21days of being notified of the sanction.
