PEN tabs Rankine, Daum
Claudia Rankine and Meghan Daum are two of the winners of the 2015 PEN Center USA Literary Awards, which were announced Thursday morning. Based in Los Angeles, PEN Center USA annually honors poetry, nonfiction, fiction, screenwriting and journalism by writers from the West, while also celebrating the work of creative writers who foster free speech.
Rankine won the poetry award, for “Citizen.” Daum, an Op-Ed columnist for The Times, won the creative nonfiction award for “The Unspeakable.” Graham Moore won the screenplay award for “The Imitation Game,” Noah Hawley won the teleplay award for “Fargo,” and other winners included Daniel Alarcón, G. Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola will receive the lifetime achievement award. The Oscar-winning screenwriter, director and producer of “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” is the founder of the online writers community Zoetrope: All-Story.
