Arrest in homeless man’s death

A man who witnesses said shot a homeless man to death and wounded a second at the order of a Venice hotel owner has been arrested, Los Angeles police announced Friday.

On Monday, the FBI fugitive task force arrested Francisco Cardenaz Guzman, 28, on suspicion of killing 26-year-old Jascent Warren about 2 a.m. Aug. 30. Guzman and the hotel owner, Sris Sinnathamb­y, 54, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to murder and attempted murder.

Sinnathamb­y was released on $5-million bail. Guzman is in custody with bail set at $3 million. The pair are due back in court Oct. 14 to have a date set for their preliminar­y hearing.

Sinnathamb­y was arrested hours after the shooting. In court last month, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kristin Trutanich said he “aided, abetted and directed” the attack. Arguing for $5-million bail, she said the Sri Lankan native posed a flight risk.

Sinnathamb­y’s attorney, Alan Jackson, acknowledg­ed his client was involved in a dispute outside his Cadillac Hotel but said someone else was the perpetrato­r.

A memorial has formed near the spot along the boardwalk where Warren died. the Rose Bowl.

At Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers and the New York Mets square off at 6:07 p.m. for Game 2 of the National League Division Series.

Traffic likely will be affected throughout the day.

Obama is expected to arrive at Los Angeles Internatio­nal Airport in the afternoon and be whisked off to a Q&A at the home of “Star Trek” director J.J. Abrams and his wife, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The president will attend a private concert in the Pacific Palisades, then appear at a Democratic fundraisin­g dinner at the home of interior designer Michael Smith.

Obama should be back at LAX by the evening for his flight out of Los Angeles.
