Deputy shoots, kills home invasion suspect
Los Angeles County sheriff ’s deputies shot and killed a man early Friday after he “entered a home that did not belong to him,” officials said.
The shooting occurred about 1:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Ashcomb Drive in La Puente, according to a Sheriff’s Department statement.
A resident left the house and alerted deputies, who entered the home and “gave verbal commands to the suspect.” When the man grabbed for a deputy’s gun, officials say, the deputy shot him.
The intruder was pronounced dead at the scene. A knife, which sheriff ’s officials believe belonged to the man, was recovered. No one else was injured. Sheriff ’s deputies declined to release any additional information, citing the ongoing investigation.
As is customary in law enforcement-involved shootings, the L.A. County district attorney’s office, coroner’s officials, as well as the sheriff ’s Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau, have opened investigations.
