at No. 17 Florida State 45, Syracuse 21: Sean Maguire completed 23 of 35 passes for 348 yards and three touchdowns, and Jacques Patrick ran for three touchdowns for the Seminoles, who put up 575 yards — their second-highest total this season — and handed the Orange its fifth loss in a row. The 45 points tied a season high for the Seminoles. Maguire played in place of starter Everett Golson, who was out because of a concussion. Maguire had 302 yards in the first half, the first time a Florida State quarterbac­k had done that since Chris Weinke had 302 yards in the first half against Clemson in 2000. Eric Dungey, who went into the game leading the conference in passing efficiency, completed only 11 of 24 passes for 120 yards.

at Virginia 27, Georgia Tech 21: Matt Johns threw a goahead touchdown pass to Canaan Severin in the third quarter and the Cavaliers ended a losing streak against the Yellow Jackets at three games. The Yellow Jackets made it a nail-biter late, scoring on a 22-yard pass from Justin Thomas to Clinton Lynch with 1:41 remaining, then recovering an onside kick. But after driving to the Cavaliers 34, Thomas threw incomplete on fourth and four with 1:11 left. Daniel Hamm and Albert Reid ran for touchdowns for Virginia, which stayed in the running for the Coastal Division championsh­ip and its first bowl game in four years.

Virginia Tech 26, at Boston College 10: Michael Brewer threw a first-quarter touchdown pass and linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter to help lift the Hokies. Joey Slye kicked four field goals and Travon McMillian carried 33 times for 105 yards. Mike Knoll’s 29-yard field got the Eagles on the board with 3:26 left in the third quarter and Richard Wilson had a three-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. The Eagles lost for the fifth consecutiv­e time.
