Mets’ Alderson collapses at news conference
Sandy Alderson, general manager of the New York Mets, collapsed while talking with reporters during a news conference to announce a two-year contract extension for Manager Terry Collins, then was able to walk away.
The club said Alderson did not eat breakfast, felt lightheaded under the lights of the news conference and fainted.
Alderson, who turns 68 on Nov. 22, was grabbed by reporters and photographers, preventing him from falling hard. He was down for about a minute, then was assisted to his feet and into a chair.
“So where were we?” he said with a smile before walking away with other team officials.
