FOR THE RECORD

-

West Bank demolitions: In the Nov. 15 Section A, an article and accompanying headline about Israel knocking down homes in the West Bank referred to the action as a “punitive” measure. The Israeli Supreme Court said the purpose was to serve as a deterrent. Also, the names of two Israeli victims of deadly attacks by Palestinians were spelled incorrectly: The correct names are Malachi Rosenfeld, not Machi, and Eitam Henkin, not Eitan. The article also referred to Supreme Court President Miriam Naor as “he” rather than “she.” “A Christmas Carol”: In the Arts & Books section elsewhere in this edition, an item in the theater openings gives an incorrect opening date and prices for “A Christmas Carol” at South Coast Repertory. Preview performances run Nov. 27 through Dec. 3; the show opens Dec. 4 and runs until Dec. 27. Preview prices are $22-$47; regular prices are $27-$71. The error was discovered after the section went to press. “Legend” review: In the Nov. 20 Calendar section, a review of the film “Legend” said that Frances Shea married Ronald Kray. She married his twin brother, Reggie Kray. Paris attacks: In the Nov. 15 Section A, an article about Nohemi Gonzalez, a Cal State Long Beach student killed in the attacks in Paris, said that she had never been out of the country before the current semester abroad. Gonzalez had traveled to Greece and Turkey in 2011.

Immigrant sponsors: In the Nov. 15 Section A, an article about the federal government placing immigrant youths with sponsors took out of context a quote by Maria Woltjen, director of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights. Woltjen did not say that more oversight is needed of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, which places youth with sponsors. When she said that certain practices “are highly imperfect,” she was referring to all child welfare systems, not the federal agency.
