Payton was eight for 13 from the field and had seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. He has at least one steal in 35 consecutiv­e games — two short of the school record of 37 set by his father, Gary Payton. Guard Malik Thames scored 15 points to lead Riverside, which shot 35.5% from the field. Devin Watson scored 27 points and Derksen had 11 points and 13 rebounds for San Francisco, which shot only 32.1% but outrebound­ed the Highlander­s, 45-34.
