Glowing ad, but ‘ Hateful’ review
Your reviewer calls the newest from Quentin Tarantino “70 minutes of viable story pulled out to a brazen length” [“‘ Hateful Eight’ Amounts to Hot Air,” Dec. 25].
Can you please square this review with the ad ( on pages 2 and 3 of the same issue), which quotes the Los Angeles Times calling it “One of the best films of the year!”

I opened the Calendar section to see the a two- page ad for “The Hateful Eight” that featured a glowing Times quote. Then, I turned to Page E14 to read the less- than- glowing review.

Among the plaudits listed in the two- page ad for “The Hateful Eight” is one attributed to The Times.
On Page 14 is a hateful review by Michael Phillips. Now, that’s confusing to say the least. Who was it at your paper who supplied the quote? I’m with them.

Editor’s note: The “best” designation in the “Hateful Eight” ad came from staff writer Mark Olsen, who chose the film as one of his 20 favorites [“The 10 ( or 20) Best Movies of 2015,” Dec. 13] .
