No. 8 Arizona outlasts Arizona State, 94-82

Gabe York scored 22 points, Allonzo Trier had 20 and No. 8 Arizona outlasted Arizona State, 94-82, Sunday at Tempe, Ariz., in the teams’ Pacific-12 Conference opener.

Arizona dominated inside in the first half and built a 16-point lead in the second half on a barrage of threepoint baskets. The Wildcats shot 55% overall and made seven of 12 three-point shots, including five of eight in the second half.

The Sun Devils cut the Wildcats’ lead to six points with three minutes left but couldn’t climb all the way back. York made three three-pointers during a big second-half run and made eight free throws in the final 1 minute 18 seconds, including four on two technical fouls against Coach Bobby Hurley, who was ejected.

Tra Holder had 24 points and Obinna Oleka had 17 for the Sun Devils.

Hurley was ejected after a string of foul calls sent the Wildcats to the free-throw line. Arizona made 13 of 14 free throws in the final 78 seconds to seal the victory.

Hurley continued screaming at the officials as he left the court.

at California 71, No. 21 Utah 58: Ivan Rabb scored 11 points in the final 6:45 to help the Golden Bears pull off the upset. Rabb finished with 19 points.

Jakob Poeltl led the Utes with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Colorado 56, at Stanford 55: Josh Scott had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Buffaloes, who extended their winning streak over the Cardinal to five games.

Michael Humphrey scored 19 points for Stanford, which had won three games in a row and six of seven.

at Oregon State 70, Oregon 57: Tres Tinkle scored 19 points for the Beavers.

Chris Boucher had 14 points for the Ducks, who had won four games in a row.
