Baggett has six field goals in NFLPA game
The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl wound up being a personal showcase for former Missouri kicker Andrew Baggett.
Baggett kicked six field goals to give the National team all of its points in an 1817 victory over the American team Saturday at StubHub Center.
Baggett had three second-quarter field goals, including one from 50 yards, one in the third quarter and helped his team overcome a 17-12 fourth-quarter deficit with two more field goals.
His only miss was from 54 yards in the third quarter.
National team running back Travis Greene had a game-best 58 yards in 14 carries. Trevone Boykin of Texas Christian, who was suspended for the Alamo Bowl against Oregon, completed one of three passes with an interception.
Jacobi Green rushed for a touchdown and Jaydon Mickens caught a touchdown pass from Stephen Rivers that helped the American team build a 17-9 halftime lead.
Rivers, the brother of San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards.
Oregon’s Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns in less than a half, leading the West to a 29-9 victory in the 91st East-West Shrine game at St. Petersburg, Fla. Adams threw touchdown passes of 93 yards to Purdue’s Danny Anthrop, 11 yards to Colorado State’s Kivon Cartwright and 10 yards to Illinois’ Geronimo Allison as the West built a 23-9 lead after the first half. Allison caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Indiana’s Nate Sudfeld and finished with six receptions for 68 yards. Florida cornerback Brian Poole returned an interception 98 yards for the East’s only touchdown. ... Dual-threat quarterback Seth Collins, who had a freshman season marred by injury, is transferring from Oregon State. Collins passed for 936 yards and six touchdowns with four interceptions. He led the Beavers in rushing with 380 yards and eight touchdowns.
