Bolsinger throwing sessions

- By Andy McCullough

DENVER — Mike Bolsinger has begun throwing bullpen sessions at the Dodgers complex at Camelback Ranch, Manager Dave Roberts said. Bolsinger, who is recovering from a strained oblique, has already completed two sessions without incident. His fastball velocity was clocked at 87 to 88 mph.

“He’s coming,” Roberts said.

But it is unclear where Bolsinger will land when he is cleared to play. The Dodgers intended to use him as the fifth starter. Then he injured himself on the day the job appeared to be his.

In Bolsinger’s absence, rookie Ross Stripling has been impressive.

Bolsinger was a useful performer in 2015, with a 3.62 ERS in 21 starts.

Pitch for relief

The Dodgers have organized a charity event to raise money for the victims of last week’s earthquakes in Japan and Ecuador. Roberts, Kenta Maeda, Yasiel Puig and Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrin will sign autographs Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. A minimum donation of $10 will be required for one autograph, with a maximum of two autographs per fan.

“I’m very honored to be part of this,” Maeda said through his interpreter. “I’m aware that the Dodgers are spearheading this effort. I’m happy to be able to help in any way possible.”

Injury update

Andre Ethier (broken leg) is still wearing a brace and unable to put weight on his leg, Roberts said. Scott Van Slyke (lower back irritation) won’t be cleared to resume baseball activity until at least next week.
