This is a direct order from Dodgers fans to Manager Dave Roberts. Never, ever remove Clayton Kershaw from a game in the middle of the eighth or ninth inning unless you are replacing him with Kenley Jansen. OK? Any questions? Good.

I know Andrew Friedman is a genius and all, but why have Julio Urias make back-to-back road game starts against the powerful Mets and Cubs? It seems home starts against the feeble Reds or terrible Braves would have made more sense. After getting shelled badly, I hope Friedman and company have a plan going forward that doesn’t have the phenom pitching in San Francisco next weekend.

I’m not willing to join the Chase Utley fan club, unless it is one for grumpy old men. Come on. Won’t talk to opposing players, never smiles or acts as if the game is even remotely fun, seemingly ignores his teammates, but plays the game “the right way”? Baloney. Granted, it is his livelihood, but why not watch Mike Trout and his joy at just being on the field.
And anyone who witnessed that take-out slide last year and saw anything other than a dirty play was seeing something I must have missed.

Dodgers management, analyze this. Get rid of the 10 or 11 overpaid, underachieving guys in your bullpen and hire me. I guarantee I can throw (with only one pitch) the best game-winning home run ball you have ever seen. With the millions you save by not paying these guys, you can lower the price of parking, lower the price of tickets and lower the price of a cold beer.
This is not a win-win, because we still lose the game, but otherwise it’s all good.

The NFL may have overplayed their hand in waiting 20 years to return to L.A. The Rams’ ticket guy [June 1] refused to say how many tickets had been sold. Are the tickets too pricey or are fans waiting for the new Inglewood stadium?
Season-ticket seats (nine games) between the end zones are $1,080, $1,350, $1,575, and $2,025.
Suddenly that huge home flat screen with cold beer in the fridge looks a lot better than the shadeless Coliseum for three years.

That’s what happens when you go to Las Vegas the week before the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” You miss the memo that said they decided to bring back the Historic “MobilGas Economy Run” for the 100th running. Having heard or seen the 500 for the past 67 years, even seeing it in a pub in Dublin in 2006, I was still totally fascinated to watch the leaders mismanage their allotted amount of fuel.

Augie Garrido, recently demoted as Texas baseball coach, could also provide some amusing quotes with umpires. I was working a televised Cal State Fullerton game against Miami a few years ago. Trailing 1-0 with runners on second and third late in a home game, a Fullerton batter lashed a shot down the third base line. It was foul by inches and I so indicated. Augie was out of the dugout and in my face in a flash. After letting him say his animated piece, I put my hand up and said, “Augie, I got a good look at it, it was just foul.” Without missing a beat, Augie replied, “Don’t give me that just foul [bleep] I get that on the road all the time!”
