ETC. Kennedy wins trucks race at Bristol

Ben Kennedy moved past NASCAR trucks season leader William Byron with 19 laps to go and held at Bristol Motor Speedway for his first series victory.

Byron, a rookie won has won five races this season, looked as he would make it six when he took the lead from teammate Daniel Suarez with 21 laps left on the Tennessee track.

But Byron went high into a turn and Kennedy was able to sweep past him. Kennedy had to hold on through a restart with seven laps to go, fending off Brett Moffitt the rest of the way for the victory. Daniel Hemric was third, followed by Byron and Johnny Sauter.

Arizona Cardinals Coach Bruce Arians, who was hospitalized overnight with what he described as diverticulitis, was released Wednesday morning and attended the first 30 minutes of his team’s joint workout with the Chargers in San Diego. The teams square off in a preseason game Friday night at Qualcomm Stadium.

The Cleveland Browns suspended cornerback K’Waun Williams for two weeks and fined him for multiple violations of team rules.

The NFL suspended New York Giants kicker Josh Brown for one game for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The league and the Giants announced the suspension without disclosing the violation.

Lakers center Timofey Mozgov, who signed a four-year, $64million deal as a free agent in July, is back working out after he injured a groin Friday while playing for the Russian national team.

The Lakers said Mozgov participated in a full practice Wednesday with Russia and reported no pain from the injury after he got an MRI exam on Saturday. The 7foot-1 center was injured during an exhibition between Russia and Ukraine last week.

Mozgov, a six-year veteran who was on Cleveland’s NBA title team in 2016, is expected to be the starting center for the Lakers.

The Lakers and Chinese star Yi Jianlian are in the final stages of completing a deal for the forward to return to the NBA, said league officials who were not authorized to speak publicly about the contract.

Yi’s contract would be for the veteran’s minimum of $1.139 million but could reach “several million more” if he reaches some wideranging incentive bonuses in the deal, one official said.

But the deal hadn’t been completed yet because Yi and the Lakers are still waiting for clearance on several fronts that could “happen soon or could take a while,” one of the officials said.
