Two male students at Cal State Fullerton were stabbed on the school’s fraternity row early Sunday morning, the day before fall semester classes began, authorities said.

Police responded to a call around 12:25 a.m. about an altercation near the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house at 2117 Teri Place. When they arrived, officers found two wounded victims in the alley behind the house, the Fullerton Police Department said in a news release.

One student was stabbed in the arm, the other in the chest. Both students were taken to hospitals where they were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect, described as a Latino male age 18 to 20, fled on foot before officers arrived. He is about 5 feet 10, 160 to 175 pounds and was wearing a baseball cap, dark pants and a dark shirt, police said.

Sgt. Jon Radus said students in the area were drinking and partying. “Any time you get a bunch of kids and alcohol together, there’s gonna be parties,” Radus said. “And just like in bars, there are sometimes altercations that occur.”

It is not known whether the victims were affiliated with Greek life.

“The weekend before the first day of school, it’s usually very busy,” Radus said. “Our hope is that everyone will be safe and have a good time responsibly.”

Investigators are working to review video evidence and find the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Fullerton Police Department at (714) 738-6753, or place an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at (855) TIPOCCS.
