Milwaukee acquires Beasley

-

The Milwaukee Bucks acquired forward Michael Beasley from the Houston Rockets for backup point guard Tyler Ennis in a deal that beefs up Milwaukee’s frontcourt depth.

The 6-foot-9 Beasley averaged 12.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20 games last season for Houston. He was playing in China before signing with the Rockets, where won his league’s foreign most-valuableplayer award while playing for the Shandong Golden Stars.

The deal could signal that the Bucks intend to keep 6-foot-11 Giannis Antetokounmpo as a primary ballhandler, a position in which he thrived last season.

Beasley, 27, was the second overall pick by Miami in the 2008 NBA draft out of Kansas State. He played seven seasons in the NBA, and spent some time in China before going to the Rockets.

He has averaged 13.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in his NBA career, which includes stints at Minnesota and Phoenix.

Vladimir Tarasenko and Ivan Telegin scored 1:19 apart in the second period and Russia beat Finland, 3-0, in Toronto to set up a World Cup of Hockey semifinal against Canada — and knock out Team North America.

Evgeni Malkin scored in the third period for Russia (2-1-0), and Sergei Bobrovsky made 21 saves.

Tuukka Rask made 19 saves for Finland (0-3-3). Finland was winless for the first time in a senior tournament, scoring only one goal in three games.

The Kings signed forward Matt Luff to a threeyear entry-level contract. Luff, 19, played for Hamilton of the Ontario Hockey League last season and participated in the Kings’ development and rookie camps.

Comcast Corp. said it has a deal to purchase the late Ed Snider’s share of the Philadelphia Flyers’ parent company. Company officials said they will purchase Snider’s 24% stake in Comcast Spectacor, giving it 100% ownership of the company. Terms were not disclosed.

The deal is expected to close in October. The purchase is pending approval of the NHL. Snider founded the Flyers in 1967 and owned the team until his death in April of bladder cancer at 83.
