Quick begins to get into the swing of things
Jonathan Quick is typically short and succinct with his comments, and his sentiment about his World Cup experience left no ambiguity.
“Disappointing,” Quick said. “We went 0 and 3.”
Quick sounded ready to put the tournament behind him and get on with his ninth season as Kings goalie. He rejoined the team Wednesday after time off for a World Cup that was forgettable from the U.S. perspective.
It was hardly Quick’s fault as U.S. goalie, but the Americans went home 0-3 with a lot of questions regarding the state of American hockey.
The questions turn to when Quick will get back in net for the Kings. He said there’s a plan in place and he wants to play in some exhibition games. There are five games remaining after the Kings’ 6-1 win Wednesday against the Ducks at Staples Center.
Kings Coach Darryl Sutter said it was more of a dayto-day approach. The Kings have exhibition games Friday and Sunday before a back-toback set in Las Vegas on Oct.7 and 8.
“He’s got to get in sometime,” Sutter said. “So [I’m] just not really sure. We haven’t really talked with him about it much, but we will.”
Quick practiced for about an hour. He was at least glad to be back among his teammates.
“I’ve got a lot of guys here that I’ve played with for years and years, so it’s always good to see their faces,” he said.
Negotiation updates
Negotiations between the Ducks and restricted free agent center Rickard Rakell are gaining traction. The positive dialogue between the parties was first reported by Bob McKenzie of TSN.
The stalemate has dragged into training camp but the sides are believed to be closer than the negotiations to re-sign Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm, whose representation seeks a contract worth about $6 million per season, according to McKenzie.
Booth auditions
Veteran forward David Booth is an intriguing name in Ducks camp as he tries to resurrect his career on a tryout contract. Booth, 31, has a history of serious injuries, including a 2009 concussion, but he said that playing in Russia’s KHL last season lifted his confidence and gave him a greater appreciation for the NHL, where he was once a 31goal scorer.
It doesn’t hurt that Booth briefly played for Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle for Toronto. Wednesday was his exhibition debut.
“It’s an opportunity, and it’s there just for a little bit of time,” Booth said. “They have a lot of good veterans here, guys that have played on winning teams, and know how to win . ... I want to help that, and I think my game can elevate the team.”

Kings right wing Marian Gaborik saw a doctor Tuesday for his injured foot and is considered week to week, a team official said .... Ducks left wing Nick Ritchie left the game in the final minutes with an apparent upper-body injury and Carlyle did not have an immediate update.… Nic Dowd scored twice and Devin Setoguchi, Justin Auger, Dustin Brown and Andy Andreoff also scored for the Kings. Brandon Montour scored for the Ducks.
