Zimmer has eye surgery

- Associated press

Minnesota Vikings Coach Mike Zimmer had emergency eye surgery Wednesday night, about a month after he had an initial procedure to repair a torn retina. Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said Zimmer was having the operation and was not certain to recover in time for the team’s game against Dallas on Thursday night. Spielman said there was a contingency plan in place in case Zimmer is unable to coach Thursday.

Siemian is in a boot

Denver quarterback Trevor Siemian was held out of practice Wednesday because of a foot injury he suffered in the Broncos’ 3027 overtime loss to Kansas City on Sunday. Coach Gary Kubiak said Siemian was placed in a walking boot and is listed as day to day.

Kubiak also revealed after practice that rookie fullback Andy Janovich had season-ending surgery on his left ankle, which he injured on the first play of the game but stayed in and played 31 more snaps.

Falcons lose two key defenders

An Atlanta Falcons defense already having to adjust to losing its top cornerback for the season now also must compensate for the loss of one of its top pass rushers.

Coach Dan Quinn said defensive end Adrian Clayborn, who is second on the team with 41⁄2 sacks, will miss at least two weeks after having surgery on his left knee.

Clayborn suffered the injury in Sunday’s 38-19 win over Arizona.

The loss of Clayborn came a day after cornerback Desmond Trufant was placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle that forced him to sit out the last two weeks.
