Lincicome leads in Bahamas

Brittany Lincicome led Lexi Thompson by one shot after a record-setting second round in the LPGA Tour’s season-opening Pure Silk Bahamas Classic. Lincicome shot eight-under 65 in Paradise Island, Bahamas, to reach 17-under 129, a 36-hole tournament record. Thompson’s career-best 61 shattered the course record of 64 Lincicome set Thursday and was the second-lowest round in relation to par in tour history. Annika Sorenstam shot 13-under 59 at the 2001 Standard Register Ping.

Bradley Dredge of Wales shot an even-par 72 in gusty conditions to drop into a European Tourrecord nine-way tie for the 36-hole lead in the Qatar Masters at Doha. Also at eight under were South Korea’s Wang Jeunghun (67), South Africa’s Thomas Aiken (68) and Jaco van Zyl (69), Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnra­t (70), Spain’s Jorge Campilo (67) and Nacho Alvira (69), England’s Andy Sullivan (68) and Finland’s Mikko Kornohen (65).

The San Francisco 49ers planned a second interview with Atlanta offensive coordinato­r Kyle Shanahan, the only remaining candidate for their coaching job. Shanahan can’t sign a contract until after the Feb. 5 Super Bowl. Minnesota assistant general manager George Paton and Arizona player personnel vice president Terry McDonough will have second interviews for the 49ers’ GM opening.

The Oakland Raiders propose to pay $1 a year in rent at a $1.9-billion domed stadium if the team moves to Las Vegas. Officials on both sides called a lease and use agreement presented to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority a starting point for negotiatio­ns.

Longtime Los Angeles Times sports editor Bill Dwyre, who later turned to column writing with an emphasis on boxing coverage, won the Boxing Writers’ Assn. of America’s Nat Fleischer Award that recognizes career excellence. Dwyre, who retired from The Times in November 2015, was selected in a vote by past Fleischer winners, including former Times staff writer Steve Springer.

Kansas City Royals players, coaches and support staff met privately in Kansas City, Mo., to celebrate the life of pitcher Yordano Ventura, who died Sunday in a car crash in the Dominican Republic. First baseman Eric Hosmer characteri­zed Ventura as the fun-loving little brother whom everyone watched out for as he slowly grew into a young man.

Russia’s Evgenia Medvedeva, 17, won the gold medal at the European figure skating championsh­ips in Ostrava, Czech Republic, her second straight title in the women’s competitio­n.

Erin Hamlin of Ramsen, N.Y., won her second world luge championsh­ip, taking the women’s sprint at Igls, Austria, near Innsbruck. It’s the third world title in USA Luge history, and the first since Hamlin won on her home track at Lake Placid in 2009.
