Oleka lifts Sun Devils in overtime
Obinna Oleka had 27 points and 13 rebounds, and Arizona State defeated Stanford, 98-88, in overtime Wednesday at Las Vegas in the first round of the Pac-12 Conference tournament.
The Sun Devils (15-17) shot 56% from the field and made 10 of 22 three-point shots, but couldn’t shake the Cardinal (14-17) in regulation.
Stanford’s Michael Humphrey made a jump shot with 3.3 seconds left to tie the score, 81-81, and send it into overtime.
Arizona State will play No. 5 Oregon in a quarterfinal game Thursday.
Reid Travis led Stanford with 23 points and Humphrey finished with 18.
Tra Holder had 21 points and Torian Graham 17 for the Sun Devils.
Oleka’s double-double was his 16th this season, most in school history since the Sun Devils joined the conference in 1978.
California 67, Oregon State 62: Jabari Bird scored 20 points and converted a key three-point play with 54 seconds left to help lift the Golden Bears, who had a hard time containing Stephen Thompson Jr.
The fifth-seeded Golden Bears (20-11) pulled it out behind Bird and a strong second half by Ivan Rabb, who finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Thompson had 25 points and made five three-point baskets to keep the Beavers (5-27) in the game until late.
Oregon State cut the deficit to 59-57 but could not get closer.
Cal will face fourthseeded Utah in a quarterfinal game Thursday.
Colorado 73, Washington 63: Derrick White scored 26 points and the Buffaloes (19-13) rallied from a 19-point hole in the first half.
Colorado made 15 of 28 shots in the second half to complete the comeback, earning the right to play No. 7 Arizona in a quarterfinal Thursday.
Charles Callison and Ike Iroegbu each had 16 points for the Cougars (13-18).
