Britton is put on Orioles’ DL
Baltimore Orioles closer Zach Britton was put on the 10-day disabled list because of a strained left forearm, a move retroactive to Saturday.
Britton says he felt pain while throwing a curveball in the ninth inning of Baltimore’s victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
Britton earned the save in that game, his fifth, and matched Tom Gordon by converting his 54th consecutive opportunity, the second-longest all-time streak. The record belongs to Eric Gagne with 84.
Manager Buck Showalter said he wasn’t certain Britton would be ready to return as soon as he’s eligible April 25.
Sanchez is sidelined
Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez was put on the 10-day DL because of a blister on his middle finger.
The American League ERA leader last season, Sanchez (0-1, 4.38 ERA) gave up five runs and seven hits, including three home runs, in a loss to Baltimore on Friday.
The blister has been bothering him since spring training.
Finnegan is put on DL
Brandon Finnegan became the fourth Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher to go on the DL and is expected to sit out at least a month because of a strained left shoulder.
