Two carjacking suspects shoot 3 people, 1 fatally
Sheriff’s deputies were searching late Saturday for a man and a woman who stole a car in Pico Rivera, then shot and wounded at least three people, one fatally, in the surrounding community.
The pair carjacked an SUV about 2:15 p.m. Saturday, said Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies located the vehicle about 6:30 p.m., abandoned at Amelia Mayberry Park in Whittier, Rouzan said.
Authorities said the same pair appeared to have been responsible for shootings in Norwalk, Whittier and unincorporated La Mirada, wounding at least three people.
One of the victims, shot near Santa Gertrudes Avenue and Alicante Road in La Mirada, was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to sheriff ’s officials.
The victim of the carjacking was unharmed, Rouzan said.
The conditions of the other victims were not immediately known.
Police set up a command post at La Mirada High School.
Homicide detectives were investigating.
No other information or descriptions of the suspects were immediately available.
