Two carjacking suspects shoot 3 people, 1 fatally

Sheriff’s deputies were searching late Saturday for a man and a woman who stole a car in Pico Rivera, then shot and wounded at least three people, one fatally, in the surroundin­g community.

The pair carjacked an SUV about 2:15 p.m. Saturday, said Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies located the vehicle about 6:30 p.m., abandoned at Amelia Mayberry Park in Whittier, Rouzan said.

Authoritie­s said the same pair appeared to have been responsibl­e for shootings in Norwalk, Whittier and unincorpor­ated La Mirada, wounding at least three people.

One of the victims, shot near Santa Gertrudes Avenue and Alicante Road in La Mirada, was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to sheriff ’s officials.

The victim of the carjacking was unharmed, Rouzan said.

The conditions of the other victims were not immediatel­y known.

Police set up a command post at La Mirada High School.

Homicide detectives were investigat­ing.

No other informatio­n or descriptio­ns of the suspects were immediatel­y available.
