Visiting Lanai

Regarding “Revel in a Revived Island,” by Rosemary McClure, April 16: Kudos to Larry Ellison and the people of Lanai.

My wife and I have been to Lanai a couple of times on the ferry from Lahaina, Maui. This is the best deal out there.

It’s a short ride, and you can spend the day in Lanai. If it is whale season, it also means whale watching. A large humpback got up in front of us last time.

For 30 minutes, we were not allowed to move because of regulations. The whale came up to the ferry several times just to peek at us. RICHARD STEIGNER
