Johnson keeps rolling

-

One week after Dustin Johnson ended a five-month dry spell brought on by a back injury, he shot a fiveunder 66 at TPC Boston to take a oneshot lead in the opening round of the Dell Technologies Championship in Norton, Mass.

Masters champion Sergio Garcia opened with five birdies on the front nine. He was one stroke back, along with fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm, American Kyle Stanley and Australia’s Marc Leishman. Phil Mickelson shot a 69.

Johnson played in the group featuring the top three in the FedEx Cup. PGA champion Justin Thomas made 16 pars in his round of 71. Jordan Spieth, who lost to Johnson in a playoff last week on Long Island, shot 72.

Stacy Lewis shot an eight-under 64 for a share of the Cambia Portland Classic lead — and a chance to make a big donation to flood relief in her hometown. From the Houston area, Lewis is giving her earnings this weekend in Oregon to the relief efforts.

Two-time defending champion Brooke Henderson (67) and firstround leader In Gee Chun (68) matched Lewis at 10-under 134 at Columbia Edgewater.

Ai Miyazato was two strokes back after a 67 in her final start in the United States. The Japanese star plans to retire after the Evian Championship in two weeks in France. Jodi Ewart Shadoff (67) and Moriya Jutanugarn (69) also were eight under.

Kevin Sutherland shot an eightunder 62 to take a one-stroke lead over his Sacramento rival Scott McCarron in the PGA Tour Champions’ Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary, Canada. Miguel Angel Jimenez, Todd Hamilton, Billy Andrade and Scott Dunlap shot 64. Vijay Singh topped the group at 65, and 2014 winner Fred Couples was at 67 along with Nick Faldo.

The Columbus Blue Jackets resigned free-agent center Alexander Wennberg to a six-year, $29.4-million contract, locking up their top-line center through the 2022-23 season.
