Maxwell kneels during anthem
Catcher Bruce Maxwell of the Oakland Athletics on Saturday became the first MLB player to kneel during the national anthem.
Maxwell adopted a protest started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in response to police treatment of black people.
The A’s said in a statement they “respect and support all of our players’ constitutional rights and freedom of expression.”
Etc.
Catcher Kurt Suzuki and the Atlanta Braves agreed to a $3.5million, one-year contract for 2018. ... MLB donated $1 million to relief efforts in Puerto Rico and Mexico.
