Debit card that’s ‘nasty’ fee-free

- William Kendall Los Angeles

In the Sept. 10 Feedback column, the Travel section printed a letter writer’s advice to beware of using a debit card abroad because of several “nasty charges.”

That advice may be valid for some cards, but not all. One of the best (probably the best) ways to access cash at automated teller machines abroad is with a Charles Schwab Bank debit card. It’s free to open an account, there are no fees or charges for using the debit card abroad, and they give you the best exchange rate available.
